Greetings
from Harpole’s Heartland Lodge! Things could not
be better here at Heartland Lodge. Spring is in the air
and we are very excited about the 2004 season! There are
some exciting things going on that I know you are going
to like.
This
newsletter is our way of sharing with you the latest happenings
at Heartland Lodge. It will also offer you special promotions
and discounts that you will only find in the newsletters.
The promotions and discounts will be located at the bottom
of each newsletter. |
You
will only receive four newsletters from us each year. If for any
reason you don’t want to receive them, let us know and we will
delete your e-mail from our system.
New
Cabin:
We
are considering building a new cabin next to the main lodge! This
facility would serve as a perfect wingshooter cabin in the fall
and provide more suites the rest of the year! We would love your
suggestions on what you would like to see in the new cabin. Some
of the things we are taking into consideration are:
- Six extra large suites with plenty of room
-
Private decks for each room
- Jacuzzi in each room
-
TV in each room
- Fireplace in each room Room
-
Doors leading directly outside
New
Waterfowl Program (click
here):
Harpole’s Heartland Lodge and Jeff Foiles of Foiles Migrators
have joined forces! Foiles Migrators will conduct our waterfowl
hunts on Jeff’s exclusive properties. Jeff and his guides
are some of the best in the country! Call or e-mail us to learn
about other exciting things that are going on with our waterfowl
program.
New
Fishing Program (click
here):
Harpole’s
Heartland Lodge has teamed up with Keith Graham to offer charter
fishing trips on the Mighty Mississippi River.
Keith specializes in large sturgeon (catch and release only). If
you have never caught one of these giant fish, you are in for a
great experience! You will also catch channel catfish, blue catfish,
flathead catfish, walleye, carp, buffalo, drum perch, and bass.
Call or e-mail us to find out more information about our new fishing
program.
As you can see there are a lot exciting things going on at Heartland.
You can also check our website in between newsletters to find out
the latest news. (www.Heartlandlodge.com)
I look forward to seeing you during the year!

Perhaps
you had an opportunity to experience a Heartland Lodge guided
upland hunt this season, and have become “hooked” on
wing shooting. With the availability of our guided and self-guided
hunts during the off-peak season our guests can take advantage
of the best of both worlds. Guests can partake of the fine food
and lodging at Heartland Lodge, and still enjoy a rewarding day
in the upland fields at our off-peak season rates.
Heartland
Lodge offers a wide range of hunts from self guided ½ day
hunts without meals or game processing, to our double premium
4 night 3 day all inclusive packaged hunts. All of our winter/spring
hunts have the same high quality managed birds, habitat, professional
dog and guides as our fall hunts, but substantial savings for
our
guests.
There
are other benefits in addition to the cost savings to guests
who choose
to hunt after January 1st. Bring the whole
family and
while you enjoy
a day in the upland fields, other family members can take a guided
horse trail ride, ride ATV’s, enjoy a
round of sporting clays, or take an evening hay wagon ride and
enjoy
a bonfire with a warm drink and roasted marshmallows after dinner.
The winter/spring season also happens to coincide with the annual
bald eagle migration, which brings with it several events and
viewing opportunities.
Our winter/spring season also has many special events guests can
participate in during their stay. The St. Louis Cardinals benefit
hunt for Christian Family Days is becoming very popular. Our guests
can also enjoy a day in the upland fields with the well-known outdoor
writer Stuart Williams during the Stuart Williams Hunt. If you
have a sporting dog of your own and have toyed with the idea of
friendly competition, the Illinois Upland Championship Field Trial
series comes to Heartland every winter.
Remember,
even though your local upland hunting season may be over, the
fun
and excitement of upland wing shooting continues
here at Heartland Lodge until April each year. So don’t clean
and store your shotgun just yet. There are still opportunities
for the heart pounding adrenaline rush of a flushing rooster pheasant,
the joy of a fine pointing dog “pinning” a covey of
bobwhite quail in warm season grasses, or the explosive escape
of a brace of Hungarian partridge into the hardwoods.
Come
join in on the action, you won’t be disappointed!
March
Madness Special:
Most
of us have made it through the holidays and are anxiously waiting
for the coming of Spring! Don’t put
away those shotguns just yet!
Heartland
Lodge is once again offering a Sizzling Spring Bird Hunter’s
Special. Beginning March 1st until March 31st, based on availability,
you can get into some hot upland wingshooting. Our spring special
package will include the following:
- Overnight accommodations with meals (one night)
- A fully guided mixed bag upland hunt for pheasants & quail
for one day (no limits)
- One round of sporting clays on our 15-station course
- A silk screened - monogrammed, soft-side Igloo cooler to take home your bird
harvest
- A blaze orange Orvis Heartland Lodge hunting cap
- Two (2) boxes of 12 or 20 gauge shot shells
This
complete wingshooter’s package is being
offered again, for only $498 plus tax (good for new reservations

was a huge success last year!

forward to hearing from you.
Happy hunting,
Russ Pankey

It
is a beautiful day here at Heartland!
As
far as the eye can see, there is beautiful white snow covering
all the grounds. The aroma of freshly made bread is sifting through
the lodge. A banana cream pie is cooling for tonight's dinner.
The "great" room is filled with guests. The recliners
are pushed back and everyone is enjoying the fireplace with the
sounds of the crackling wood and the warmth it brings to the
room.
The
upland hunters are coming in from their afternoon hunt. While
they are stomping the snow off their boots, they tell me what
a great time they had hunting.
As
I look outside, I see the birds flying from feeder to feeder
and occasionally a few curious ones will check out the back deck.
The cardinals are breathtaking! Today their bright color stands
out more than usual against the white background. Lex, the lodge
dog, is enjoying her own game of running and playing in the snow.
God has given us a perfect day at Heartland.
With
the peak of the hunting season behind us, we are now planning
weddings, booking bed and breakfast, scheduling reunions and
conferences for the days ahead.
Helping
people have fun has to be the best job in the world! I look forward
to visiting with you at the lodge.
God
Bless!
Ms. Wanda
From
the Office:
There have been some changes with the staff in recent months here
at the Heartland Office. Some of you may remember Sue Eller and
Linn Duske. In September 2003, Sue moved closer to St. Louis and
is now working for an attorney part-time. Linn retired in December
2003 and is traveling with her husband out West visiting family
and friends. They are both greatly missed but we are wishing them
well in all their future endeavors.
The new faces and voices in the office are Gena Long and Ann Henderson.
Gena replaced Sue as the Office Manager in September and Ann replaced
Linn in December as the part-time secretary. Gena works Monday
through Friday and Ann works Monday through Wednesday. Please be
patient with each of us as we are still learning the many specifics
of our positions. We will always try our best at answering your
questions to help you determine which booking best suits your needs.
Marcia McKinnon is our Accounts Receivable/Payables clerk. She
is in the office on Thursday and Friday. Marcia has been with Heartland
for many years and enjoys her granddaughter on her days off.
Don't forget the Gift Certificates! We sold
many of them in the month of December for Christmas presents.
They can be a wonderful
gift all year round. Our bed and breakfast months are January through
September. Purchase a round of sporting clays for a buddy for their
birthday; a two-hour ATV or horseback ride for someone that needs
to just "get-away"; the whitetail suite for your parents
or boss for their anniversary; a hunt package for a friend or family
member - they will surely be surprised and will understand why
Heartland builds traditions that last a lifetime!
If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to send
me an email at gena@heartlandlodge.com.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.

The
2003 season was an exciting one here at Heartland. We had our best
season ever with 27 P&Y bucks harvested!(view
some of the bucks harvested here)The top five bucks this year scored 186”,182”,172”,161”,
and 159”. Most importantly we had a 90% customer satisfaction
rating!
Preparation for the 2004 season is in full swing. Much of my time
has been spent shed hunting, scouting, and selecting new stand
locations. The sign remaining from last fall is incredible. Scrapes,
rubs, and trails are extremely visible in the winter woods. I am
already finding quite a few sheds as well. I am sure that I will
pick up many more before spring gets here.
Once the ground dries up I will be planting some food plots.
With the weather warming up it is key to get the plots established
as soon as possible. Once the soil temperature reaches 50 degrees
they will begin germinating. This usually happens around late March
in our area.
Our hunters
should also begin preparing for the upcoming season. For those
of you who haven’t reserved your spot for this
fall we do still have a few openings. Our rut hunts are nearly
full and we still have some October dates available. Sorry all
of our gun and muzzleloader hunts are sold out for this year
but we are booking for 2005. We are offering some special rates
on
our remaining hunts so please contact us for more information.
Have a great year and we look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

The Heartland Riding stables are very
excited about the upcoming 2004 season! The horses are in excellent
condition and are anxious
to go. Of special note, we have all new tack for our horses and
guests this year. We are also laying out some new trails for our
guests to enjoy. Spring is an excellent time to take your family
or that “someone special” on a guided trail ride through
the picturesque landscaping of Heartland Lodge.
The spring flowers
are in bloom, turkeys can be seen on ridges strutting, and newborn
deer fawns with their mothers are often seen feeding on the hillsides
and valleys. If you have your own horse, don’t leave them
at home. We have stalls and an outdoor arena that they can stay
in. Come join us this spring!
