 The arrival
of summer marks an important time of the year. For our archery deer hunting friends,
the end of June is the deadline to reserve your hunt and apply for your tags. If
you have not reserved your hunt already, please give us a call today! July begins
the peak season for reserving wing-shooting trips for this fall. We are very excited
about the upcoming wing-shooting season! For our retreat guests there are only a
few months left to enjoy Heartland this year! The last of September is the end of
our retreat season.
Make sure you check out the specials we are running at the bottom of this newsletter.

It’s Cory again, here at HARPOLE’S HEARTLAND LODGE, and wow is it hot! Last week brought the beginning of summer and boy did mother nature let us know. This week also brings to an end your chance to apply for non-resident archery permits. We still have a few great hunts left that would be perfect for you. Please contact our office if you have any questions or would like to reserve your spot.
This is always a great time of year for the avid hunter. Deer are everywhere and I enjoy watching them feed in the fields. The weather is warm now, but in just 3 more months the chill will return to mark the beginning of hunting season. As we begin the scouting process I am always excited to see the new fawns, and this year is no exception. It seems that almost everyday I see something new that makes me laugh. I always catch myself wondering, “Is this deer going to be the next world record?” The deer look great and are starting to show obvious characteristics in their horn development. It is still a little early, but I definitely like what I have seen. The food plots are growing strong and with a little luck the deer will be feasting in a sea of clover come fall.

Duck Season 2006 at “The Crooked Slough”
The 2006 duck season is barely more than three months away. Can you believe it? Time seems to be flying by as we finish all the last minute preparations, and I am excited.
We’ve done a lot of work at The Crooked Slough and the finale will be a great season. The slough has a new well on the other side of the hunting area to push water and keep it open just behind the pits and electricity has been run to the pits. Ice Eaters are in place to keep the water open around the decoys and the old pumping system has been overhauled to pump water faster and help keep even more water open. Ducks!!!! Come on down!!!
I have witnessed an increase in duck traffic every year for the past four years at our facility, so I see no reason to think of nothing but better hunts this year. And my confidence is only increased after hearing the good hatch reports coming out of Canada. I hope to see you in 2006 at “The Crooked Slough”

Hello everybody. I hope you have had a great spring. We have! The Native Grass fields have greened up nicely from our early season burnings, and they look great! The food plots have all been planted and are starting to come up.
The conditions this spring were very favorable for our nesting upland birds, and the hunting forecast for this fall looks to be a good one. Remember, now is the time to start booking your fall hunts to assure that the dates you want are open. We will be running a September special for all our hunters to enjoy. It will include the following:
Overnight accommodations with meals (one night)
A fully guided mixed bag upland hunt for pheasants and quail for one day (no bag limit)
One round of Sporting Clays on our challenging 15-station course
A silk screened – monogrammed, soft-side Igloo cooler to take home your bird harvest

This complete Wing-Shooter’s package is being offered for only $505 plus tax (good for new reservations only). We are also offering additional hunting opportunities. Weddings and Anniversaries
Marriage is a celebration that fills the air (and the heart) with excitement, and its allure is ever present here at Heartland Lodge. We continually entertain couples who come to us at different stages of their married life.
We rang in 2006 with the Burris wedding in January. The family booked both lodges for the weekend. It was a beautiful winter wedding.
Earlier this spring, a gentleman hosted a weekend for his girlfriend and her parents here at Heartland. The excitement began with a limo ride to the Lodge and finished with his proposal of marriage.
In May we hosted a wedding for a couple that included music, dancing and even fireworks! Not surprising was the fact that two other honeymoon couples were here that weekend along with several couples celebrating their anniversaries. They were invited to enjoy the fireworks and everyone went home with a memory that will last a lifetime.
This week the Walter family will be here for their 50th wedding anniversary. Their children are coming in from all directions and they have reserved an entire lodge for their celebration of love and family.
Even within the Heartland “family” love is in the air. Olivia and Mike, both valued Heartland employees, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
Tell someone how you feel about them, make a commitment to love, or rekindle old feelings. It can all be done at Heartland Lodge. Give us a call and let us help you create a new memory.
