Upland Bird Hunting Questions & Answers: >>

Q: What is the difference between a traditional hunt and a premium hunt?
A: The premium hunt is a mixture of liberated birds and wild birds. This is for the bird hunter who likes to keep active during his hunt.

Q: What type of habitat will we be hunting?
A: Our upland hunting grounds are made up of different types of native praire grasses. We have areas that are good for early season and others that are good for late season.

Q: Do you have wild birds?
A: Yes. We have a good population of wild quail and a fair population of wild pheasants.

A: On our traditional upland hunts, quail and pheasants are available. In the fall, our Premium package includes Chukars and Red leg partridge.

Q: What size shot do you recommend for your hunts?
A: We recommend using 7 ½ shot. You never know if a pheasant or a quail may get up.

A: Yes an entire lodge can be privately booked.

Q: How many hunters can you take at one time?
A: We can accommodate hunting groups from 1-4 shooters.

A: Most of our guides use pointing dogs. Some guides may run a flushing dog with their pointers. English Pointers, English Setters, and German Shorthairs are the most popular breeds used.

Q: Can I hunt with my own dogs?
A: Yes. We enjoy having guests bring their own dogs. We have kennels available for a small fee ($25 per night). Many of our guides are also dog trainers and can give you training tips when you are in the field. Dogs can also be rotated between guides dogs and your own dogs. Most of the time, the guide will not run their dogs at the same time you are running your dogs.

Q: Are gun rentals available?
A: Yes. We charge $50 per day for gun rental. Please call us in advance if you would like to rent one of our guns.

Q: Are taxidermy services available?
A: Yes. We have a referral system in place with a world-class taxidermist.

Q: Can we check out your place during the non-hunting months?
A: Yes. Many of our hunters take advantage of our Bed and Breakfast season to check out what we have to offer. We recommend for you to visit in July or August if that fits into your schedule. Many large bucks are out in the fields during this time of year.
