What’s Happening at Heartland in February

February is set to be a busy month for the Heartland crew.  We’ll start the month off at SCI in Las Vegas.  For those of you in the western part of the country, we’d love to see you there!  We will be heading to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show immediately following the SCI show to visit our east coast friends.  These shows provide us with a great opportunity to visit with old friends and make new one.  Our booth numbers will be 8021 in Harrisburg and 3000 in Las Vegas so stop by and say hello!

Aside from traveling across country in February, we are working hard to get our properties prepared for turkey season.  We’ve seen a large number of birds already, and intense scouting will begin soon.  This turkey season is shaping up to be one of the best we’ve had here at Heartland.   It’s not too late for you to join us in the spring.  The application deadline for third drawing for tags ends February 9th.  After that, tags will be dispersed based on random daily drawings.  We are almost full for spring, but we do have a few slots available for 4th and 5th seasons.

Other things to be on the lookout for at Heartland are the shed hunting season, the  reopening of the ATV trails, and the beginning of horseback riding!  At this point we estimate that approximately 30% of the bucks in our area have shed their antlers.  This number should increase drastically in the next month, especially if severe weather, such as a snowstorm, hits.  For those of you who like to play in the mud, recent wet weather has provided us with lots of it for your four- wheeling pleasure.  Our horses have gotten fat over their winter break. They are anxious to break the monotony of roaming the pastures and are ready get back out on the trails.  Also, our upland hunts are still in full swing.  Terry, along with his guides and dogs, have had an awesome season thus far, and the fun will continue in the bird fields until April 15th.

As you can see there is plenty going on at Heartland Lodge this winter.  However, if what you’re looking for is a quiet get-a-way and the activities listed above aren’t for you, remember, there is always a warm fire in the lodges for you to curl up next to with a good book.  There is something for everyone this time of year.  We hope that you will come out and join us.
