Schedule Some Time for Some R&R!!
That’s right! It’s already September 2nd and if you’re like me, you’re asking yourself, “Where has the year gone?” The summer is on its way to being a memory of yesterday, the kids are all back in school and the holidays are just around the corner. The seasons will soon be changing and fall will be in the air before we know it. But with everything that goes on in your life, have you taken some the time for a little R&R? Some rest and relaxation? If you haven’t, then I’ve got just the solution for you!
For anyone that has followed my blogs from the beginning, you’ll know that Dan & I have been going to Harpole’s Heartland Lodge for years and that our annual anniversary trip to the lodge is just around the corner (tomorrow to be exact!) We will be celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary by visiting the lodge for the 15th consecutive year – remember, we spent our honeymoon at the lodge!
So at the beginning of the year, I told myself that 2013 was going to be the year for us to get organized, get the workshop in the garage set up, and start saving some money for some upcoming trips. All good thoughts, right? Well, it is now the beginning of September and our annual trip to the lodge is already upon us!
Some days, I have conflicting feelings about taking the two days to get away and enjoy ourselves. Dan works a 40-hour job during the week while I work from home and then we both work for an auction company that sometimes involves both days of the weekend as well as weekdays and sometimes, even a Friday night. Our auction schedule has been busy all year long but we are now headed into our busy season with 14 sales in September! October is going to be very busy as well with auctions and then we’ve decided to add a couple of trips to our calendar this fall. Just a week after our trip to the lodge, Dan will be heading to Florida for a week to visit his mother and sister and then we’re heading to Colorado in October for a niece’s wedding. I’m stressed just thinking about it!
So at this point, you’re probably thinking we’ve overbooked ourselves! That might be true – but I can promise you, we’re not the only ones! Even if your life is more chaotic than ours, everyone needs to take a break and get away from it all. I realize that this sounds great in theory – but may not always be practical. But think about it – what good can you be to yourself and your family if you are overworked, overtired and running on your last ounce of energy? I, for one, know that I can only push myself so far before I lose control of things – my life, my projects, my attitude. So a day or two (or more, if possible) works wonders in refreshing the mind, body and soul.
I know that there are many things that I need to do here at home next week, but I know they’ll be waiting for me when I get back from the lodge. The couple of days away – relaxing in the beautiful lodge that we jokingly call our “home away from home” – will do wonders for helping to clear our minds so that when we come back on Wednesday night, we’re fresh and ready to tackle the next couple of months. We book our reservations for the next year before we ever leave the lodge so it becomes a getaway that we never question doing – it’s on our calendars 12 months in advance!
And you can do the same thing! Whether you need your time away after the kids are back in school, during the summer vacation when the kids are home and under foot every day, or after you’ve completed a big project at work, a couple of days away will be one of the best things you can do for yourself! What if you have sent your last child off to college and are empty-nesters for the first time? Don’t you deserve a little time away? Raising a family, though rewarding, can definitely cause stress in your life so reward you and your spouse by planning a little get away!
But a relaxing getaway isn’t just for husbands and wives! What if you have a friend who has been going through a rough time in their life? Treat them to a quiet, little getaway where the only think they have to think about is the beautiful outdoors and listening for the next dinner bell! Need a little time to yourself? Many people come to Harpole’s Heartland Lodge to unwind, relax and reconnect with themselves.
So how does a person really relax at the lodge? First off, if the made-from-scratch meals don’t’ do it, then the triple-sheeted bed in your private room will certainly help do the trick? The beautiful, natural setting of the lodge – with all the sights and sounds of Mother Nature – will help! And did I mention that since no shoes are allowed in the lodge, running around in your slippers should relax anyone! What about the scenic, sunset hayride? The bonfire with s’mores? A relaxing horse-back ride through the countryside? Or a leisurely stroll around the more than 700 acres? Get the picture?
Throughout the last year or so, I’ve had the privilege of visiting the lodge at times other than our anniversary – and I have learned that no matter what time of year you visit the lodge, the scenery – though changing – is always gorgeous! So think about it – do you need to take a break from reality for a little bit? A stay at Harpole’s Heartland Lodge will not only send you home feeling refreshed and relaxed but you’ll be rejuvenated and ready to tackle the next phase of your life!
