Opening Day of Illinois Gun Season

Opening day of Illinois gun season here at Harpole’s Heartland Lodge in Pike County, our hunters arrived yesterday afternoon ready and excited for opening morning. Most of the afternoon yesterday, hunters were sighting in their guns and preparing for this morning as deer talk was the conversation of the night. It was a cold and calm morning providing excellent conditions for opening day, which benefited two of our hunters so far as they have put two great shots on two beautiful bucks. Here at Heartland for the last few weeks the weather has been inconsistent with perfect conditions and not so perfect conditions but we have had many hunters hunting hard with some great success. Just last week we had a father and son from Pennsylvania double up. This was a special occasion as it was the son’s very first buck with a bow. We have had several other very respectable deer harvested recently as well, one of them scoring 173 inches as a typical 10 point. You can check out pictures of this year’s harvests on our facebook page and web site which we update frequently. Most all of our hunters in for first gun season are sitting all day in hopes to harvest their dream buck. We wish the best of luck to all of the hunters out there and hope you all have a great season!
