An upland and waterfowl combo hunt at Heartland Lodge is a great hunt for those looking to get plenty of wing shooting action. A hunter can experience phenomenal Illinois waterfowl hunting that could include species like canvasbacks, mallards, wood ducks, teal, Canada goose, specklebelly goose and snow goose over our flooded fields. We are one of the top waterfowl outfitters and duck lodges in the Midwest. After the morning hunt, head back to the lodge and enjoy a home cooked meal before heading to our upland game hunting area.
Our pheasant hunting and quail hunting is known to be the #1 quail & pheasant hunting lodge in Illinois. Turkey hunting at Heartland is a favorite among hunters visiting the lodge. A perfect combination of hardwoods, CRP, and clover food plots create phenomenal turkey hunting opportunities. Our turkey season typically opens the first weekend of April (youth season) followed by a week break and then continuing through mid-May. We recommend our hunters to come in a few days early to upland hunt before turkey hunting. Our upland hunting season goes through April 15, which coincides with our youth turkey season, and usually the opening week of regular turkey season. Another option hunters have that hunt during turkey season is to head to the upland fields after a morning turkey hunt.

Deer/ Upland Hunt Combo
We are now offering a combination late season whitetail deer and upland hunt. We recommend splitting half of your time deer hunting and the other half upland or waterfowl hunting (i.e., 2 full days deer hunting, 2 full days upland hunting). Hunters can also upland hunt in the morning and whitetail hunt in the evening. An upland deer hunt combo hunt or a waterfowl deer hunt combo gives you a great variety of hunting action. This is great for the hunting honeymoon couple that wants a variety of hunting opportunities at an affordable price.
Hunting deer during the late season is all about finding the food. Bucks can be very patternable during this time of year as they travel from bedding to feeding areas. Typically, during December and January, the temperatures drop and produce high quality evening sits from the stand. Bow hunters are now welcome to use crossbows while hunting deer in Illinois throughout the season.
Upland and Waterfowl hunts can also be added to any October or November deer hunt. The upland or waterfowl hunt needs to be before or after your deer hunting days during this time.

Waterfowl Hunting Conditions
Our waterfowl pits are very comfortable and easily accessible. They will provide enough room for up to eight hunters. Our professional waterfowl guides pride themselves on decoy set up and calling. Just recently, Heartland Lodge was featured in Ducks Unlimited as having one of the largest and most unique decoy set ups.
Gun Rentals- We have shotguns available to rent for $85 per day. Please call-in advance if you would like to rent a gun (217-734-2526). Renting one of our shotguns is much easier than taking one through an airline!
Our upland game hunting area consist of strips of milo, native prairie grasses and thick drainages. Our professional upland guides will accommodate to your style of hunting, whether it be slow or fast paced working dogs. We mow flushing strips in the prairie grasses for easy walking and it forces the birds to flush or hold for the dogs.
Your upland hunt includes an Original Lodge Standard Room with either two twin beds or bunk beds and a private bathroom, booked double occupancy. Private rooms and suite/lodge buyout options listed below are available for an additional nightly fee.
Sunset Valley Lodge- The Perfect Private Corporate Upland Hunting Lodge.
Sunset Valley. The name of this lodge says it all. The view from the expansive rear deck as the sun sets over the horizon of the Mississippi River bluffs will take your breath away. This 10,180 square foot luxury upland hunting lodge features seven suites and rooms. You can reserve an individual suite or the entire lodge for your group. This lodge has a great outdoor entertainment area along with a game room downstairs. Perfect for corporate upland retreats looking for a private lodge. Sunset Valley Lodge is located 1 mile from the main lodges where meals are served. (meals are served in the Prairie Ridge Lodge)
The All About the View room is known for Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux staying in this suite. This room was also featured in the Chicago Tribune’s “10 Great Hotel Rooms in the Midwest”.
Prairie Ridge Lodge is named after the prairie grasses that surround the resort that hold native quail and pheasants. This lodge is also known as our premier wing-shooting lodge as it has over 10,000 square feet of luxurious warmth and features seven luxury suites with hot tubs and fireplaces. All seven of the luxury suites are designed the same but each one is decorated with its own theme, each theme having significant meaning related to the lodge property. The focal point is the hand-made chandlers in the dining room. Two feature and upland theme and one a waterfowl theme.
Each room also has its own private Adirondack chairs on the deck where you can relax first thing in the morning enjoying a cup of coffee before heading out to the upland fields. After a long day afield, relax on the deck with your favorite beverage or bottle of wine. The ultra-comfy beds have become an attraction themselves!
Luxury Upland Cabins -Most Popular Option for Hunting Honeymooners.
Private Luxury Cabins Enjoy a private luxury cabin that was built with upland hunting couples in mind. Each cabin is decorated with its own unique theme. All cabins are carefully crafted with knotty pine and cedar walls, fifteen-foot vaulted ceilings, hand-carved Old Hickory furniture, fixtures and appliances. Each cabin with hot tub and fireplace also features an ultra-comfy, king-size bed, large 4K HD television with 4K Blu-ray player, relaxing private deck with barbeque grill, kitchen, and private fire pit to roast marshmallows or to make your own s’mores. When staying at these upland cabins, hunters can easily walk to the main lodge.

Quail Ridge offers a peaceful, private getaway in the serenity of nature that offers complete seclusion and privacy! Relax and enjoy the expansive views overlooking the pristine countryside from the Western facing back patio with comfortable seating for your friends and family. Once the sun sets, enjoy roasting marshmallows and eating smore’s over the bonfire pit in the backyard while reminiscing about the days hunt.

Deposit Policy
A payment of 50% of your total hunt is due when making your reservations.
Cancellation Policy
If you are booking a fall hunt (September-January), all balances must be paid by September 1st. A process fee of 10% of your total booking will be charged when canceling. After September 1st, your entire deposit will be lost. If someone in your original booking does not show, you will be charged the full amount of original amount booked. These policies will help us provide you better service.

Transportation
Lambert St. Louis International Airport is the closest major airport. For private planes, Quincy, Jacksonville, and Pittsfield airports are the closest. Visit our directions page for directions for driving to the lodge.
Open All Year
Come to Heartland for a get-away. This will give you the opportunity to check out the Lodge prior to booking a hunting trip. We are open all year. Our Illinois resort section has activities available for everyone to enjoy throughout the year!
Arriving A Day Early
You are encouraged to arrive a day early to get settled in after traveling (If available). This allows an extra day before your hunt in case of any travel delays with your flight or gear. It also gives you an extra day to do some site seeing or shoot a round of sporting clays. (Must be reserved in advance).
Miscellaneous Information
Bringing Your Own Dog You may bring your own dog. The fee is $25 each night if staying in our kennel. Our kennels are outside and are 5′ x 10′. Our waterfowl guides will not use their own dogs with client dogs. (Dogs are not allowed inside the lodges.) We are not responsible for the quality of your hunt when using your own dog. Make sure your dog is in shape and is accustomed to hunting our conditions.
Sporting Clays
It is recommended that all hunters shoot a practice round of sporting clays the day before upland and duck hunting. Please try to arrive around 3:00 p.m. the day before your hunt to shoot sporting clays. It is recommended that you schedule sporting clays in advance if you would like to shoot during your stay.
