Whether you are looking for a weeklong vacation, work-cation or extended weekend- Heartland offers several customizable packages that will make you want to turn vacationing at the lodge into an annual tradition!
Vacations are a great time for relaxing and enjoying the location you have chosen for your getaway. If the purpose of your vacation is to unwind and get away from the stresses of life, the relaxing atmosphere of Heartland Lodge will be just what you are looking for.
Relax & Unwind
You can relax on one of our wrap-around decks that overlooks the surrounding woods and watch the wildlife that is abundant in the area. If you are wanting to catch up on some reading, curl up with a good book in one of our comfy chairs and get lost in the joy of reading. The triple-sheeted beds (located in all of our rooms) make the perfect spot for an afternoon nap. You can enjoy the morning sunrise with a cup of coffee or the quiet of the evening with a glass of your favorite beverage. At the end of the day, soak your cares away in a Whirlpool tub (located in our suites.) Heartland Lodge is THE perfect spot for a vacation focused on relaxation.
Horseback Riding Vacation
For those who want a horseback riding vacation, Heartland is the perfect spot. If you have your own horses, you can board them in our stables or use our outdoor arena. For those who don’t have their own horses, we are just the place for you. You can help our expert wranglers feed and water our horses, then brush and saddle the horses before the ride. You can even help clean out the stalls if you would like. After the day is over you can also help unsaddle the horses, wash them off and brush them down.

Outdoor Activities for Everyone
If you prefer the outdoors on your vacation and are looking for some activities on-site, Heartland offers many options. Put on your hiking boots and hike the many trails available throughout the resort. Take the opportunity to do a little mushroom hunting or blackberry picking on 1,200 acres! Take a scenic horseback ride through the rolling hills that surround the resort or rev up one of our rental UTV’s and take an adventurous ride on 60+ miles of trails. You can bring your own ATV, UTV or dirtbike and enjoy Illinois’ largest ATV park! You can enjoy our sporting clays course that offers a little bit of everything for the beginner to advance shooters or test your skills on our pistol range. We have four stocked fishing ponds (only accessible by UTV) as well as guided catfishing excursions on the Mississippi River! We also offer River Tours and Romantic Sunset Cruise Packages!
After enjoying our gourmet, homecooked meals, you can relax around the bonfire and enjoy s’mores, reminding you of the days when you were a child. Take this time to reflect upon the day’s activities and plan for tomorrow!
If you want to take a road trip through the Illinois or Missouri countryside, there are many sites, attractions, and events to see within an hour or so of the lodge. The area surrounding Heartland Lodge is rich with history and historical sites!
Take the opportunity on your vacation to brush up on history lessons long forgotten or to share our rich history with an eager child. You can head out to several Illinois locations for a day filled with Abraham Lincoln history. Or cross the Mississippi River to Missouri and have some fun in Hannibal, the river town home of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, by exploring Mark Twain Cave or taking a sight-seeing tour on a Mississippi River boat. You may want to head south towards St. Louis, MO and see where it all began for the Lewis & Clark Expedition by visiting Alton and Hartford, IL as well as St. Charles, MO. Several museums and self-guided walking tours are also available within the local communities surrounding the lodge so you will definitely want to check them out.
If you are a sports enthusiast, think about a round of golf at one of the local golf courses or taking in a sporting event. The area offers everything from high school sports to minor league teams to professional level sporting events.
What would a vacation be without shopping? Whether you enjoy shopping malls or quaint antique shops, any direction you head from the lodge will provide you with enough shopping to satisfy the most avid shopper. There are several wineries and breweries within a short drive of the lodge as well you can stop by during your “shopping day”!
Even the small towns and communities surrounding the lodge have some great activities – local car shows, county fairs and festivals, community theaters, concerts and more! Seasonal activities also include fishing, boat shows, and amazing fireworks displays! You can enjoy local breweries and wineries, and a water park for kids of all ages. All of these, and more, can be enjoyed while on vacation at Heartland Lodge!

The luxury cabins are one of our most popular choices for those staying for an extended weekend or weeklong vacation. They offer everything you need for the perfect staycation or work-cation!
Designed with couples and families in mind. Each cabin is decorated with its own unique theme. All cabins are carefully crafted with knotty pine and cedar walls, fifteen-foot vaulted ceilings, hand-carved Old Hickory furniture, high quality fixtures and appliances.
Each cabin with hot tub also features a fireplace, ultra-comfy king-size bed, large HD television, relaxing private deck with barbecue grill, kitchen, sleeper sofa and private fire pit to roast marshmallows or to make your own s’mores.

The Original Lodge is the perfect fit if you are planning a vacation with several friends and family. With thirteen rooms (up to 26 guest), a large great room with fireplace- perfect for conversating and catching up, two-story decks with beautiful views and comfy chairs, large recreation room with pool table, extra-large screen TV for movies or to watch the game and a large bonfire pit in the backyard!
Regular Room – There are eleven regular rooms. These rooms have two extra-long, triple-sheeted twin beds with a private bath. Each room is decorated to a certain theme according to its name.
Angler Room – This room has a queen-size, triple-sheeted bed and a set of bunk beds. This room also has a private bath and is decorated in a fishing theme.
Whitetail Suite – This room has a king-size, triple-sheeted canopy bed, fireplace and a private Whirlpool. It also has a walkout porch that is nice for viewing the wildlife.
All of these rooms are located in The Original Lodge.
Luxury Suites – There are seven luxury suites in our Prairie Ridge Lodge. These suites have king-size, triple-sheeted canopy beds, private bath with Whirlpool, fireplace, day bed, comfy chairs, walkout porch, mini refrigerators and are decorated according to its own theme. The ultra-comfy beds have become an attraction themselves!
These suites are located in the Prairie Ridge Lodge.
There are seven unique suites and rooms available at Sunset Valley. This is a perfect fit for those couple’s retreat vacations or a smaller family/ friends group vacation that are looking for a secluded lodge with beautiful panoramic views!
All of the rooms in this lodge feature an ultra-comfy, triple-sheeted bed and have been furnished with hand-made Old Hickory furniture. 
Five of these rooms, including The Grand Suite and All About the View, offer an amazing view of the sunset over the Mississippi River bluffs. The private bath of The Grand Suite features a two-person shower and sauna while two of the suites feature a heart-shaped Whirlpool, all with the same amazing view of the river valley!

Heavenly View – If you have been looking for a secluded cabin in the woods for your next vacation, the Heavenly View Cabin is just that! Completely secluded atop a bluff overlooking an old homesite and meadow. You can truly get away from it all in this cozy cabin retreat!
There are four suites and rooms in Heavenly View. Three suites have king-size, triple-sheeted Old Hickory beds, comfy chairs, love seats and are decorated in a southwest theme. The fourth room has two queen-size beds. All beds are ultra-comfy. Heavenly View can only be reserved as a private cabin (individual rooms cannot be reserved.)

Conference Rooms – We have a 1500 sq. ft. conference area in the Prairie Ridge Lodge and a separate board room in the Original Lodge. The board room seats sixteen people. Wireless access and telephone lines are available for connecting to the internet to outside sources. We have all of your corporate conference amenities available for your meetings.
Recreation Room – This room has a television, pool table, card/game table, and library. Restrooms are available in this room. All of our lodges and cabins feature a Recreation Room.
Great Room – This room has a large stone fireplace, Remington statues, and a large open ceiling. The Original Lodge and Sunset Valley lodge both have a large Great Room.
Special Note – All guests need to remove their shoes in the mudroom. You may bring house slippers or just wear your heavy socks. Our guests really enjoy this feature – it’s just like home.
Deposit Policy
Full payment of your stay is due when making your reservations.
Cancellation Policy
Due to the nature of our business, we ask for a 30-day cancellation notice (60-day for lodge buyouts). A processing fee of 10% of your total booking will be charged when cancelling. Cancellations without 30 days (60 day for lodge buyouts) will not be refunded. If someone in your original booking party does not show, you will be charged the full amount. These policies help us provide you with better service.
Harpole’s Heartland Lodge strives to give our guests the best experience possible. We understand that your upcoming trip is a significant investment. We offer trip insurance through North America’s leading provider of Travel Insurance called “Travel Guard”.
There are many circumstances that could change your plans. Please take a few minutes to learn how you can protect yourself. If you choose to decline this valuable coverage, you are assuming any financial loss associated with a cancellation or a change in your travel arrangements.
